El Mohán
This is one of the most traditional Colombian legends, whose origin is not precisely established, as many people think it pertains to the tradition of Huila Andes; others think it comes from Tolima Department and even from Antioquia Department. This is the reason why the legend is known with different names, such as “El Mohan de Yarumal”, “El Muan”, “El Tigre Mono” (the tiger-monkey), and “El Mohan del Tolima”. The
Mohan is defined as a being of monstrous appearance, corpulent and of long hair
covering most of his body; his face is rustic and frightening. There are many
versions about the features of this mythical character; however, the fishermen
of Andean region describe him as roguish, vagabond, adventurous, malignant,
dishonest and quarrelsome, while he shows up to women like a deceptive, lovesick
and dirty satyr. |
